Buy One Take One Pasta on Mondays at Dong Juan

Image
Recently, I dropped by the Dong Juan branch at the Ridges at F. Cabahug Street.   I was alone and I supposed to have a light snack but ended up getting curious about their pasta promo.  Every Monday, pasta is buy one take one. Since I was ordering pasta anyway, I ended ordering two since the other one is free. I got the Gambas Pasta and the Spanish Chorizo Pasta for less than 200 pesos. Talking about carbo-loading .  The other pasta choices are the Linguini meatballs, salami ham, chorizo pasta, Pacific pasta, and Linguini carbonara . With their promo, you are only going to pay for the more expensive pasta while the other one is free. If you love shrimps , the Gambas Pasta is perfect for you.  The pasta entree has shrimps and pasta cooked with a  generous dose of spiciness.  The dish is topped with bonito shavings which gives you the impression that the your food is constantly moving.  The  salty flavor of the shavings though complement well with the spicy pasta.  The Gambas pa

Pungko Pungko - Cebuano Foodie Must-try

Image
You cannot say you are a Cebuano foodie until you partake and enjoy the offerings of your local Pungko-Pungko stall. Pungko means squat in the Cebuano language.  The Pungko-Pungko name was attached to vendors who walk to sell food and when they find interested eaters they usually look for a clean corner and squat or "pungko" to eat.  Now, most Pungko-Pungko suki do not need to look for their favorite vendor because there are now in many places in the city that are known for this type of "cuisine".  The popular hotspots for pungko-pungko are the stalls in the Fuente area at the back of Sampaguita Suites, Redemptorist Church Area near Foodarama, and Cebu Doctor's University area beside McDonald's.

Trying out Some Spanish favorites at Don Merto's

Image
There was one day that I was craving for some Spanish dishes .  In Cebu , I would usually go to Ipar's or ask a friend from Casino Espanyol to treat me. It so happened I was in the Escario area that I decided to have lunch at Don Merto's.  It has been a while that I wanted to try out this place. In other days, I would have wanted to eat their eat all you can meat offerings.  I was quite happy to see some very delectable and familiar names in the menu. So I ordered 3 dishes.  The prices were affordable and it was one of those days that my appetite was high.  Here are the dishes that I ordered: At Don Merto's they have this part of their menu that they labeled Lola's Favorite.  These are the favourite dishes of Dona Mena Fortich Escano prepared by her very loyal cook Maxi.  I decided to try 3 of the favourites. I ordered lengua, callos, and butifarras.  I had mashed potatoes to compliment the richness of these yummy Spanish offerings. At 198 pesos, the serv

Having Congee at Phat Pho

Image
I have been feeling under the weather the past week and I have been suffering from irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).  I do not know how I got sick but one of the fastest paths to recovery is through food . Food is medicine and it's a fact. Eating the right food will help the body heal itself. When you have IBS, you are usually told to avoid oily food, dairy, chocolate, and gaseous food like camote and beans. You are also advised to eat lots of fruits and food rich in fiber.  It is also good to drink lots of fluid to prevent dehydration.  When I have IBS, I usually eat congee or lugaw in local language. I usually prefer arroz caldo or pospas over lugaw.  Pospas is basically chicken congee with lots of ginger. Even if I fell sick, life must go on. I still have to go to the office at Robinsons Cybergate and check on my sales agents. I asked people from the office if they know a place that has pospas.  The normal answer would be Chowking but Chowking has stopped serving that for

Enjoying The Ribpublic

Image
Two days ago, Angela Madura, one of my food and fitness buddies, asked me if I know where Ribpublic Diner is. The 17-year-old girl has a list of places she wants to eat at.  I can only answer that it is somewhere in Capitol Site. I really don't know where Ribpublic is and my only clue is that one of my Swarm friends have checked in there.

Having Schnitzel at Der Kaiserhof Banilad Town Center

One night, my wife and I were looking for a place to eat dinner.  We were hungry we wanted to eat somewhere close to our house that serve food fast and somewhere we have not visited yet.  As we drove around, we ended up at Banilad Town Center (BTC) and saw that there was a new  restaurant  that has opened named Der Kaiserhof.  By the name itself, it sounded like it's a German Restaurant and indeed it was a restaurant that offers  European  dishes.
