6-8-2015 Food of the Day: Cafe Laguna's Fresh Lumpia

Image
Cafe Laguna has been institution when it comes to Filipino food here in Cebu.  The ultimate bestseller in the Laguna group of restaurants is probably its Fresh Lumpia or Lumpiang Sariwa.  This unassuming vegetable specialty is a favorite among locals and balikbayans.  This is the type of food that you will miss when you will leave the Philippines. The main filling of this dish is ubud or heart of palm.  I always love eating the lumpia at Cafe Laguna but I usually split it with someone because the serving is quiet big and I want to leave some room in my tummy for the other delicious dishes of the restaurant.  Do you like lumpiang ubod as well? Feel free to comment if you have a delicious lumpia recipe that you want to share. ;) Related articles Enjoyable Special Family Occasions at Laguna Garden Restaurant Chinese Restaurants in Cebu: Majestic opens in Ayala Center Cebu New Wing Eat-All-You-Can Restaurant in Cebu: Feast All You can at Golden Cowrie ...

6-6-2015 Food of the Day: Budbud and Manga

Image
Budbud or steamed sticky rice wrapped in banana leaves is one my favorite local delicacies or kakanin.  It is a very flexible delicacy that it can be eaten as a dessert, snack, or even breakfast food.  When I go home to my dad's hometown in Bohol, I always look forward to eating budbud for breakfast.  It goes so well with sikwate or hot chocolate.  Another great combo for budbud is eating with ripe mangoes. Budbud with manga has become so popular that even local restaurants started offering the amazing combination.   How about you? Do you have a favorite delicacy?  Related articles Kakanin Galore at the Banilad Town Center Chocolate Hills, Bohol Delicacies: Medellin's Chrisphelle Special Otap, Patatas, Huevos Chocolate overload at The Chocolate Chamber #Foodtrip 2015: Ormoc Food Adventures Bantayan Island Tour Day 2

6-3-2015 Food of the Day: Palabok at Zucre at City Times Square

Ever since I ate my first pancit palabok around 30 years ago at Goldie’s, it has become my favorite Filipino noodle dish.   I love how it looks and the taste is just perfect for me. For me, the sauce and toppings are the most important components of the dish. The thick shrimp-based sauce of a palabok always bring a joy to my tongue. My favorite toppings are chicharon and shrimps.
