Ding How Reopens after 20 years!

Image
Cebuanos love dimsum.  I grew up loving steamed rice, siomai, siopao and lumpia Shanghai. I am not alone. Apparently, this love affair between Cebuanos and dim sum started in 1969.  In 1969, man landed on the moon.  Filipina Gloria Diaz bagged Miss Universe that year. On that same year, Cebu was introduced to Hong Kong-style dim sum with the opening of Ding How.

#MeetEatRepeat: Sumo Sam with Jomie Hospital

Image
A year ago I have been introduced to a different kind of social media animals called Youtubers or Vloggers. I have been blogging for quite a while but I rarely encountered Youtubers in Cebu in events that I have attended.  Thanks to ABS-CBN's Chicken Pork Adobo (now Adobers Studios), I have met some of the best Youtubers in the region.  One of the best is definitely Jomie Hospital of Gingoog. He relocated to Cebu recently and I am one first people who shared a meal with the newest Cebu-based YouTube sensation.

#MeetEatRepeat: Jullian Sibi's Housewarming

Image
It has been a while since the #Hibsters leads had a get-together .  We finally found a good reason to meet up when Jullian Sibi's family moved in to their new house in Guadalupe. I also wanted to celebrate  landing a new job.  Here is what we did in our latest Kalaminions #MeetEatRepeat session.

New Restaurants in Cebu: Rustic Chef's Favorites

Image
There has been a lot of new restaurant openings in Cebu lately that is making the local food scene more vibrant and competitive.  A lot of restaurants in Cebu have been offering new items to entice Cebuanos while old favorites also innovate to try to keep up with the changing preferences of the market. When I eat at a new restaurant, I always look for something different and unique that each place has to offer. At Rustic Chef's Favorites, I found a couple things that I would love to eat again if ever end up in the Lapu-Lapu City area.

Philippine Street Foods: Chicken Proven

Image
I love street food.  I have been eating it since I was in elementary school.  From fishballs to peanuts to pungko-pungko.  One of the newest street food favorites is the Proben or Chicken Proven.  This fried chicken part is one of my favorite snacks when I was still working at Robinsons Cybergate and I would love to eat it when I get the chance. Have you tried this one?

Sugbo Mercado Food Trips: Eggcloud by SG and Pinacoolada

Image
Before the year ended, I was able to check out Sugbo Mercado at the SRP with some of my blogger friends. We enjoyed some egg waffles from Eggcloud by SG and I also got to taste the  Pinacoolada .  Sugbo Mercado SRP is definitely a food destination that my friends from the southern part of Metro Cebu should check out.

Kalami Cebu thanks all the Kalaminions of 2016

Image
It was a great year for food and food trips for Kalami Cebu.  It would not have been this awesome if not for all the Kalaminions who participated in my food trips.  As the first "Thank You" post to cap the year, Kalami Cebu would like to recognize all the people who are instrumental in joining me in this food blog journey. Kalaminions of 2016

Cebu Wing Places: Sure Thing Chicken Wing

Image
"Winging is not everything! It's the only sure thing!" There has been a lot of new  Chicken Wing Places in Cebu lately and I got invited to the opening Sure Thing Chicken Wing at F. Ramos Street.  It might not be my favorite part of the chicken but I also love to eat wings.  I checked out the wings at this place and I know what to order the next time I visit this restaurant.

Dessert of the Day: Dew Droplet Cake by Skillet Japanese Cafe and Bistro

Image
I am not really a sweet tooth by I love to try unique food items.  One of the most unique culinary creations that I discovered recently would be Skillet Japanese Cafe and Bistro's Dew Droplet Cake. This "cake" is popularly known as Raindrop Cake or in Japan, it is called Mizu Shingen Mochi. The dessert had a semi-cultlike following in New York. Surprisingly, it is now in Cebu.  Thanks to #ZomatoPh, I was able to try it recently.

Kalaminions #MeetEatRepeat: Seaside Saloon Bar and Grill by The Social

Image
The Social recently opened their newest restaurant concept in Cebu at the SM Seaside City.  The new place is called Seaside Saloon Bar and Grill by The Social.  Just like their concept in Ayala Center Cebu, the new restaurant is another hybrid coz it is diner/sports bar/ music bar.  It's all about fun at Seaside Saloon by The Social.  The Kalaminions were there to check to preview what they are offering to Cebu.

Italian brand Hausbrandt opened its first cafe in the Philippine at the Capitol Square, Escario Street, Cebu City. Hausbrandt has a presence in 70 countries worldwide and they plan to be a major player in the local coffee market. What sets Hausbrandt by Euro Food 1892 from their competitors is their way of brewing their coffee.  They are the only cafe that mainly uses the Bialetti Moka Pot to make delicious coffee.

Vikings SM City Cebu: A Feast Fit for a King!

Image
When I watch movies, I always feel some jealousy looking at medieval kings and warriors feasting after a victory. I sort off salivate when I see Vikings eating a whole leg of lamb using one hand. I fantasize doing just that while eating some drumsticks. Well, my fantasy turned into reality when I went to the opening of Vikings SM City Cebu.

Sunset, Dinner and Scape Skydeck

Image
If you are looking for the best restaurant to view the sunset in Cebu then my recommendation would definitely be the Scape Skydeck at the roof deck of Azon Condominium in Mactan, Cebu. When you plan to dine here, I suggest that you come as early as 5 pm so that you can witness the glorious summer sunset over some burgers and cold drinks.

Eat-All-You-Can Restaurant in Cebu: Enjoy Korean Barbecue with K-Pop Stars at KPub BBQ Cebu

Image
In the past couple of years, Korean Popular Music or K-Pop has conquered the world. K-Pop has just invaded the world of eating with the opening of KPub BBQ Cebu. KPub BBQ Cebu is a meat-all-you-can restaurant where diners enjoy a fantastic Korean barbecue at a place that is more of a K-Pop Superclub than a restaurant.  If you love K-Pop Music, you will miss half of your life if you do not eat here.
