Kalami Cebu! - A Gastronomic Guide to Cebu

An awesome month has just passed and it was a hectic month for my tummy.  September is my birth month. I expected it to be busy and it really was.   I actually had a hard time picking the 32 best food and drink items of the month.   Why 32? Well, Cebu has a phone area code of 032 making that number somehow significant to Cebuanos and to Kalami Cebu.  

Cafe Laguna has always been one of my favorite Filipino restaurants in Cebu.  When I dine at any of their restaurants, I know that it is going to be a feast.  Last year, I was in their 24th-anniversary buffet and I definitely had a heavy dose of #happytummy. On September 28, 2016, Cebu's longest running Filipino restaurant will treat Cebuanos to a grand buffet for only Php 499.00 ++.

 When a balikbayan goes home to the Philippines, he/she would definitely want to eat in a Filipino restaurant.  My mom is no different.  One of her favorite Filipino restaurants in Cebu is Cafe Laguna. A couple of weeks ago, I drove her to the Basilica Minore Del Santo Nino because she wanted to hear mass with her friends. My wife and I tagged along.  After the mass, my mom said that she wanted to have an early dinner.  I decided to take her to Parilya, Laguna group's newest restaurant at the South Road Properties. It was definitely a wise decision as we had a very enjoyable and filling dinner.

Cafe Laguna has been institution when it comes to Filipino food here in Cebu.  The ultimate bestseller in the Laguna group of restaurants is probably its Fresh Lumpia or Lumpiang Sariwa.  This unassuming vegetable specialty is a favorite among locals and balikbayans.  This is the type of food that you will miss when you will leave the Philippines. The main filling of this dish is ubud or heart of palm.  I always love eating the lumpia at Cafe Laguna but I usually split it with someone because the serving is quiet big and I want to leave some room in my tummy for the other delicious dishes of the restaurant.  Do you like lumpiang ubod as well?
