6-10-2015 Food of the Day: Doming's Ngohiong at Barbix Barbecue and Grill

Image
One of my favorite ngohiong places in Cebu is Doming's Ngohiong in Fairlane Subdivision , Guadalupe, Cebu City.  It has been a while since I last ate there.  I rarely go as far as Guadalupe to have lunch since I live near Mandaue area.  A couple of months ago, I discovered that nearby Barbix Barbecue and Grill is selling Doming's ngohiong at 12 pesos a piece. I tried the ngohiong there several times and I always end up having a #happytummy (as expected).  I just hope though that Doming's can give them their special sauce because it is a big part of the ngohiong experience.

Hole in the Wall: Carlos Special Ngohiong - Mabolo

I am a certified Ngohiong fanatic. When I crave for ngohiong, I really do not mind exploring the side streets of Cebu in order to find a good meal.  Recently, I discovered that one of my favorite ngohiong places has a branch just 10 minutes from my house. Carlos Special Ngohiong opened a branch near Mabolo Church and I was able to enjoy their delicious ngohiong and fried chicken gizzard.

It was lunchtime and I was looked for a good place to eat near my house. I was craving for ngohiong and I decided to eat at Atek's Ngohiong in Kasambagan. I decided to have one of their Combo Hot Meals Special.

Hole in the Wall: Pungko-Pungko at Redemptorist

After a week of meat deprivation, I broke my fast with a visit to my favorite pungko-pungko stall near the Redemptorist Church area.  This area is one of my favorite places to have some fatty treats.  This is second to the J.Llorente area which is near my office.

Golden Cowrie, one of Cebu's most popular local restaurants has opened a branch in A.S. Fortuna, Mandaue City. Aside from offering their Filipino cuisine specialties, their branch in Mandaue has a daily Eat-All-You-Can buffet.  Golden Cowrie's Feast-All-You-Can is priced at an affordable 299 pesos for lunch and 399 pesos for dinner.

Special Lunch at Carlos Special Ngohiong

Because of social media sites like Instagram or Facebook and the affordability of camera phones, a lot of Cebuanos are fast becoming social media foodies. Hashtags like #foodporn and #happytummy has become one of top hashtags in Instagram and Twitter. Another food requirement I think to make a Cebuano or Cebuana a certified foodie aside from pungko-pungko is to have a favorite ngohiong place. Ngohiong is Cebu's answer to spring rolls. It is a cheap food item that is a big hit to true blue Cebuanos. I asked a few of my friends about their favourite places to eat ngohiong.  The answer is not really unanimous but a couple answered Carlos Ngohiong. Some also said Doming's in Guadalupe , Atik's in Mabolo, and Chinese Ngohiong near USC Main.  One time I ended up in Mambaling with a friend and I told her that I want to have ngohiong lunch at Carlos Special Ngohiong.  It has been quite a while since I went there.  I almost got lost but thanks to a friendly trisikad ...
