Kalami Cebu! - A Gastronomic Guide to Cebu

After having a savory meal at a Chinese restaurant, I usually look for something sweet.  One of my favorite desserts to order is Buchi.  Buchi is a round rice cake covered with sesame seeds and filled with sweet bean paste. Most Chinese restaurants have it.  Even fast-food chain Chowking has it. I can probably finish at least 2 cakes after a meal. How about you? Do you love Buchi too? One of my favorite dishes in Majestic Restaurant is their Lumpia Shanghai.  It has always been a favorite for decades now.  My wife probably considers the fried lumpia as China's greatest culinary invention.  We love the Lumpia Shanghai at Majestic because it is meaty, crunchy, and bite-sized. Majestic's fried lumpia has the perfect ratio between meat and wrapper. I also marvel how tightly they wrap their tiny masterpieces as there is no space between the wrapper and the filling.  At Majestic, the lumpia comes freshly fried so it comes out really crispy.  It is also good that they cut the Lumpia Shanghai pieces into smaller sizes before frying ensuring a really cooked filling and also making it easier to eat. #WheninMajestic always order the Lumpia Shanghai.  A lot of people claim to know how to make a delicious Lumpia Shanghai but for me, Majestic's Lumpia Shanghai is the Lebron James of fried lumpia in our city.  Summer is definitely the best time to be "addicted" to cold desserts.  It is the season when popsicles, ice candies, buko bars, and ice creams become so popular.  Eating ice-cold food is one the best ways to make you forget about the summer heat.  Among my favorite summertime treats is the halo-halo. I have eaten this Filipino dessert in many places, but I think I just discovered the best ever halo-halo for me. 

Last month, a former agent of mine wanted to meet up and have lunch somewhere in Ayala. We planned to meet at Gold's Gym so I ended up passing by the new wing of Ayala Center Cebu and I saw that the iconic Cebu Chinese restaurant Majestic has opened a new branch at the mall.  It has been a while since I last ate at the popular Chinese restaurant, so I decided to eat there with my agent.
