Kalami Cebu! - A Gastronomic Guide to Cebu

 Last weekend, I was able to taste Da Vinci's Pizza Piccolo. I liked it a lot and I was more than happy to bring a trio of it home. I putted a box in the ref then a couple of days later I decided to eat the pizzas for breakfast. I used a sandwich press to heat it and magic happened. I just discovered a new breakfast favorite.

 Many say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.  I totally agree and for me, the best way to start a day is to have a big breakfast.  You can do that by waking up at 4 am and start cooking pancakes, eggs, bacon, etc. or you can "cheat" and just go to a breakfast buffet.  I recently went St. Mark Hotel and tried Halo Restaurant's Breakfast buffet. It was so filling and satisfying that I skipped lunch.  The experience made me think of having a big breakfast every weekend.

Golden Cowrie has always been one of my favorite Filipino restaurants here in Cebu.  I was pleasantly surprised when I learned that they now serve breakfast in Robinsons Cybergate.  Their loaded breakfast sets range from 69 to 139 pesos only. I got to try some of their items when Lyndon Escosura invited me for a late breakfast.

Why is it that a simple breakfast meat gets elevated to become a Pinoy classic combination by just adding some Garlic fried rice or sinangag, and some eggs? We call it "Silog" which is short for sinangag and itlog (eggs). I got so addicted to the different versions of silog when I studied college in Manila. My favorite silogan there was Rodic's at the UP Shopping Center in Diliman.  I really love their tapsilog.  In other days, I get chosilog (chorizo, sinangag, itlog), hotsilog, cornedsilog, spamsilog, tocilog, and even hungarian silog.  Even when came back to Cebu, I always love when breakfast includes some version of silog.
