7-2-2015 Food of the Day: Leche Flan

Image
One of my favorite local desserts is the Leche Flan. It was love at firs taste when I first had Leche Flan back when I was a little boy.  My mom is an expert in making this enjoyable dessert.  This is an easy dessert to make, but it takes some time to master.  Leche Flan is made of sugar, egg yolks, evaporated milk and condensed milk. It is sweet, creamy, and addictive.  Here is a link to a  good Leche Flan Recipe from Food.com:  http://www.food.com/recipe/special-leche-flan-275014 Do you love Leche Flan too? 6-25-2015 Food of the Day: Buchi

Image
After having a savory meal at a Chinese restaurant, I usually look for something sweet.  One of my favorite desserts to order is Buchi.  Buchi is a round rice cake covered with sesame seeds and filled with sweet bean paste. Most Chinese restaurants have it.  Even fast-food chain Chowking has it. I can probably finish at least 2 cakes after a meal. How about you? Do you love Buchi too? 6-22-2015 Food of the Day: Giant Halo-Halo

Image
Halo-Halo is probably one of the most loved cold desserts by Filipinos.  There are so many versions of this popular dessert.  The possibilities are actually endless as restaurants use some unique ingredients to make their halo-halo special. One way of making a halo-halo unique is to "put on steroids" and make it a giant.  The giant-sized halo-halo which became a craze here in Cebu was started by Ice Giants. Founded in Davao, Ice Giants conquered Cebu with their Giant Halo-Halo. The super-sized Ice Giants dessert has toppings that include Ice Cream in different flavors, wafer sticks, candies, cream, and a whole lot more.  It is fun to eat with friends and family. Have you tried the Halo-Halo at Ice Giants? How do you find it? Ice Giants has a branch in Capitol Site and City Times Square Mandaue.  Frozen Snack Bar in Juana Osmena also offers a similarly sized halo-halo.  Related articles 6-5-2015 Food of the Day: Snow Ice Halo Halo by Majestic - t...

Wine and Desserts at Plaza Pino Boulangerie

Image
A few weeks ago, Pino Restaurant opened their newest expansion which they call Plaza Pino Boulangerie. I have to look up what boulangerie means.  Well, it is actually French for a bakery. Pino is not just about Filipino cuisine anymore and their newest expansion is more of an extension of the Pino group's French flagship La Vie Parisienne.  I went to Plaza Pino Boulangerie with a foursome of students who wanted to celebrate the end of school year. Two of them graduated college so there was a wonderful reason to celebrate and have some wine and desserts.

Cafes in Cebu: Pasta and Cake at Degree 9 Coffee and Roasting

Image
It has been a while since I last talked to my friend  +Nezte Virtudazo  who is taking up Law at the University of San Carlos.  I usually drill him with  some law-related questions just to keep himself sharp in his freshman year in law school.  One of our favorite study hangouts is Degree 9 Coffee.  We just usually have coffee or tea.  Recently, we had a meet-up during finals week.

Eat-All-You-Can Restaurant in Cebu: Very affordable Buffet Lunch at Isidra Comfort Cantina

Image
It was Friday and I had an appointment at Chong Hua Hospital around 10 am. My appointment ended past 11 am so I was looking for a place to eat lunch.  While driving a long the Capitol site area, I saw a poster about a 149-peso buffet. Really, 149 pesos only? It got me really curious and luckily I found a parking space nearby.
