Pungko Pungko - Cebuano Foodie Must-try

You cannot say you are a Cebuano foodie until you partake and enjoy the offerings of your local Pungko-Pungko stall. Pungko means squat in the Cebuano language.  The Pungko-Pungko name was attached to vendors who walk to sell food and when they find interested eaters they usually look for a clean corner and squat or "pungko" to eat.  Now, most Pungko-Pungko suki do not need to look for their favorite vendor because there are now in many places in the city that are known for this type of "cuisine".  The popular hotspots for pungko-pungko are the stalls in the Fuente area at the back of Sampaguita Suites, Redemptorist Church Area near Foodarama, and Cebu Doctor's University area beside McDonald's.

Enjoying Cheeseburger and Milkshake at Cafe Racer

It's another day in the 2015  Sinulog  week and to avoid the traffic, I went to the North Reclamation Area and then I saw this diner.  I decided to check it out and maybe have some decent snack.   I did not expect much of this place.  The outside looks like an refurbished abandoned gasoline station and there is a car wash for people who wants to have their car cleaned while enjoying some good food. When I got inside of the main diner, I was blown away. There are so many Instagram worthy areas in Cafe Racer Diner.  And it starts with the cashier's area. VW Van inside Cafe Racer!?

Special Lunch at Carlos Special Ngohiong

Because of social media sites like Instagram or Facebook and the affordability of camera phones, a lot of Cebuanos are fast becoming social media foodies. Hashtags like #foodporn and #happytummy has become one of top hashtags in Instagram and Twitter. Another food requirement I think to make a Cebuano or Cebuana a certified foodie aside from pungko-pungko is to have a favorite ngohiong place. Ngohiong is Cebu's answer to spring rolls. It is a cheap food item that is a big hit to true blue Cebuanos. I asked a few of my friends about their favourite places to eat ngohiong.  The answer is not really unanimous but a couple answered Carlos Ngohiong. Some also said Doming's in Guadalupe , Atik's in Mabolo, and Chinese Ngohiong near USC Main.  One time I ended up in Mambaling with a friend and I told her that I want to have ngohiong lunch at Carlos Special Ngohiong.  It has been quite a while since I went there.  I almost got lost but thanks to a friendly trisikad ...

Favorite Pinoy Dishes at AA Barbecue

Ever since I discovered AA Barbecue, it has always been a favorite place to have lunch or dinner.    It is one of the restaurants or eateries where I can eat and enjoy any of their dishes. It is actually hard to pick a favorite here.  In some days, I just order some grilled pork belly, ngohiong and punaw soup.  In other days I could eat Saang, hot and chrispy squid, and chopsuey. The possibilities are just endless.

Stilt Restaurants off the coast of Olango Island

Off the coast of Olango Island, there are several stilt restaurants that offer fresh seafoods for lunch.  Although a bit expensive, these restaurants offer a different kind of dining experience. You can reach these unique restaurants via banca and it is a great stopover while having an island hopping adventure in Cebu. At the stilt restaurant, you can pick your desired seafood from several choices. They have shells, fish, squid, shrimps, lobsters, and other edible seafoods.  One you made your choices they are going to weigh it and then ask you how you want it cooked. You can have it grilled, fried, sautéed, or made into a delicious soup.
