6-3-2015 Food of the Day: Palabok at Zucre at City Times Square
Ever since I ate my first pancit palabok around 30 years ago at Goldie’s, it has become my favorite Filipino noodle dish. I love how it looks and the taste is just perfect for me. For me, the sauce and toppings are the most important components of the dish. The thick shrimp-based sauce of a palabok always bring a joy to my tongue. My favorite toppings are chicharon and shrimps.
I was at the City Times Square during lunchtime because I have to pay some bills at the nearby Parkmall. After doing my chores, I went to Zucre which is one of my favorite places to eat in the area. Zucre is a cake/dessert place, but the cafe also serve some hot meals. When I saw a palabok in their menu, I instantly decided to have it for lunch.
The pancit palabok at Zucre costs 90 pesos. I also ordered Raspberry Iced Tea at 50 pesos as my beverage. Zucre’s Palabok is good for one person. It came with fat white noodles and orange sauce. It was topped with shrimps, ground meat, eggs, and chicharon. The sauce was a bit spicy which was a pleasant surprise. The dish also includes 3 half slices of bread which I use to finish the yummy sauce.
Although I find their palabok a bit expensive, I was quite satisfied with my lunch. The flavors that I was looking for were there and I cannot think of a cafe that serves palabok. Zucre is always going to be one of my favorite places to eat in Mandaue because it is one of the few places that I can enjoy some decent hot meals, supper yummy cakes and desserts, and free WiFi.
Zucre is located at the 2nd Floor of the City Times Square in Mandaue City.
