Would you exchange your relaxing Sunday evening with your family for a crispy pata dinner with Jericho Rosales? Your answers may be varied, but yes, I did it once and it went well. Jericho Rosales is now the new face of homegrown Kuya J Restaurant.   The Cebuano restaurant brand is setting its sights to become of the dominant Filipino restaurants in the country.

A couple of days ago, Kuya J Restaurant invited some bloggers and local press people to an event featuring Kapamilya star Jericho Rosales. The Kuya J event started with a concert at SM Northwing where Jericho serenaded his loyal Cebuano fans.  The mini-concert was then followed by a dinner and press conference.

Sumptuous Sunday Dinner with Jericho Rosales at Kuya J Restaurant

The delicious treat featured some of the best dishes that Kuya J Restaurant can offer. Here the delicious dishes prepared by the Cebuano restaurant for our dinner with Jericho Rosales:

Appetizers

Grilled Scallops

Eating buttery grilled scallops is one of the best  ways to start off a delicious meal in a Filipino restaurant. Kuya J's scallops were served with guso and tomato. After I tasted their scallops, I understood why this dish was one of the Top 3 favorites of restaurant owner Winglip Chang.  It was really good.

Lumpiang Presko

Their take of fresh lumpia was unique. They used a malungay-infused lumpia wrapper which was stuffed with sauteed crabmeat and bamboo shoots. The lumpia was served with a sweet garlic sauce. A very healthy combination which could be ideal for weight watchers.

Chorizo Dinamita with Garlic Dip

I liked their idea of using some Cebu chorizo for this dish.  The sweet local sausage complemented so well with the spiciness of the chilis. Just another enjoyable appetizer at Kuya J Restaurant.

Rice and Main Dishes

Danggit Rice

The danggit rice was an innovative version of salted fish fried rice. It was good, but a serving of plain rice was a better match to the other dishes that they served during the dinner.

Kare Kare

Their Kare-Kare was very traditional. I usually order kare-kare when I eat at Kuya J. I can finish several cups of plain rice when I eat kare-kare and bagoong.

Sizzling Pork Sisig

Their sizzling pork sisig was really meaty. It was not as fatty as the versions of other Filipino restaurants.

Crispy Catfish

For me, the dish of the night was the crispy catfish. I think it was my first time to eat hito or catfish and Kuya J gave me an instant favorite. It was love at first bite for me. The crispy catfish tasted like fried chicken. It was a bit bony, but the seasoning was just perfect for me.  I liked dipping it to the chilli tuba sauce and the bagoong mayo. I would surely order one the next time I eat at the restaurant.

Pochero Bulalo Tagalog

For Cebuanos, pochero is a dish with a clear broth that is very tasty due to the beef bones that were simmered for hours.  The pochero tagalog served at Kuya J Restaurant  was closer to the Spanish orginal.  The pochero tagalog was more of a tomato-based stew topped with saba (bananas).  It was like a close cousin of the kare-kare that used beef shanks  instead of ox tails.

Crispy Pata

Kuya J Restaurant touted themselves to have the best crispy pata in town. The management informed us that they upgraded their fryers to maintain a consistent quality when it comes to this dish. Jericho Rosales helped present the dish and he even cut a serving into bite-sized pieces. Their crispy pasta was a well-seasoned dish with crispy skin and moist meat.

Desserts

Mango Pandan

After an amazing feast, we were served with several sweet treats to complete the super supper. They served a beautiful mango pandan which was topped with candied sugar as garnish. I could that say that Kuya J Restaurant had one of the most Instagram-ready ways to serve this Filipino panghimagas or dessert.

Tablea Coffee Flan

The tablea coffee flan was another interesting creation developed by Executive Chef Sheena Koseki. Strong flavors with a creamy texture, this dessert will have its fans.

Fried Halo-Halo

The fried halo-halo was more of a hybrid from a deconstructed halo-halo and turon. It was another good play of hot and cold components.

Leche Flan

Kuya J Restaurant also served some traditional-looking desserts like the leche flan. If you are the type who loves the classics, the restaurant offers a lot of options for you.

Tablea Drink

I capped my meal with a cup of tablea or local hot chocolate.

I got a chance to take a selfie with Jericho Rosales. It was blurred. I managed to ask him about his usual favorites at Kuya J Restaurant. He told me that he usually eats Adobo with a cup of coffee. He also said that he likes to eat Kare-Kare.

I think that Kuya J found a good endorser for their restaurant. Not only that his name starts with letter J, Jericho Rosales is really one of the few actors who really look like a Filipino.  He seems to really enjoy eating Filipino food. Save for the blurry selfie, spending Sunday night at Kuya J Restaurant was well worth it.

Have you eaten at Kuya J Restaurant? What are your favorites there??
