Date Places in Cebu: Falling in Love Once Again at Gayuma ni Maria Cebu
When people go into a relationship, one of the most frequent activities together is eating. Dating is kinda synonymous to eating. Couples who do not eat together usually would not last long. Couples should check out this new restaurant at the heart of Cebu City and try to rekindle the sparks that have been lost due to familiarity. Gayuma ni Maria aims to dispel the belief of #walangforever and to elevate relationships to magical levels.
It was not my first time in Gayuma ni Maria. Actually, I have tried Gayuma way back when I was still fresh out of college. I was living in the Loyola Heights area in Quezon City and the first Gayuma restaurant was located there. I was surprised that owner Maricar Aguila is a Cebuana. Her son Kadee even spent some years studying at Sacred Heart. Gayuma was really popular with students from Ateneo de Manila, Miriam College, and University of the Philippines. Their restaurant was known for their desserts and their enchanting ambience. Their Cebu branch is no different.
When I entered Gayuma ni Maria, I was easily drawn to the walls that featured some love spells. Gayuma ni Maria, when translated means Maria's Love Potion. They have love potion recipes for how to drive your partners wild, how to make them forget an ex, and many others. There was also an interesting list of the top 10 aphrodisiacs. If you think your relationship is boring then you try out some of the tips found in this restaurant to ignite some passion into your life.
The Food at Gayuma ni Maria
What's the use of a romantic restaurant if it serves mediocre food? That is not the case here. Browsing their menu could elicit some laughter and it will definitely pique your interest. The names of their dishes are so interesting that you probably want to try everything eventually. The menu is divided into five major parts: Attraction, Courtship, Commitment, Seduction, and Temptation. Attraction includes the appetizers, Courtship has the soups and salads, Commitment refers to the main courses, Seduction is comprised of the beverages, and Temptation is all about desserts.
Attraction: Appetizers or Chikininis
Gayuma ni Maria calls their appetizers "chikininis" (small bites with flavor). They have items called May Hugot (sweet potato fries), Hot, Horny Bacon, Kini-Love (Kinilaw), Shorizo Mingle (gambas with chorizo) and Come Fly with Me (Spicy Chicken Wings).
Among the chikininis, I was able to try the Shorizo Mingle (Php 195). This dish features the sweet Cebu chorizo with spicy gambas. It is served with some homemade bread. Sweet and spicy is one sexy combination.
I also tasted Kini-Love (Php 155). The fresh tuna ceviche was served on a tomato cup.
Courtship: Soups and Salads
Warm soup, or salads are just perfect for those who want a light meal. Their soups can be upgraded to go with a sandwich.
I tried their salad that was called Wedge All My Heart (Php 205). It was made of lettuce which was sprinkled with herbs, spices, and cream then topped with crunchy bacon. It was refreshing and the bacon just made it a perfect cheat day salad.
Commitment (Main Dishes at Gayuma ni Maria)
Gayuma ni Maria has a wide array of main dishes. Your date will always find a suitable meal because they have options for pork, chicken, beef, seafood, and pasta. They also come in crazy names like Secret Lovers, Rock me Baby, Please be Careful with my Heart, etc.
Seduction - Quench your thirst with their disarming drinks
Gayuma ni Maria have alcoholic cocktails that can make anyone a hopeless romantic.
Their Mango Margarita and Baha ng Pab-ibig are going to be a hit for men, women, and anyone in between. The Mango Margarita is a tequila-based cocktail with the pleasant sweetness of mango juice. The Baha ng Pag-Ibig is Gayuma's version of Mojito with strong hints of lemongrass. These drinks can be ordered by the glass (Php 99) or by the pitcher (Php389). Mango Margarita was the better drink for me. I could probably finish a pitcher during "maoy" moments.
Temptation- Because cakes are sometimes better than your crush. ;)
Your date at Gayuma will never be complete without trying out their spellbinding cakes. With names of Beat Sex Any Day, True Love, Lusty Velvet, and Twisted Pavlova, each cake is an adventure on its on. The restaurant's signature cake is the Twisted Pavlova which is named after the famous Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova. This meringue-based cake is very popular in Australia and New Zealand. Gayuma ni Maria's twist is that their Pavlova uses a softer merengue much like a Canonigo, a cousin of Brazo de Mercedes. Cake slices ranges from 105-115 pesos.
In the end, Gayuma ni Maria is the place that I will come back to. It is located in a not so busy area which makes it a perfect place for intimate moments with a love interest. It is a magnificent place to enjoy some terrific gastronomic creations that will enchant you to go back to this place more often and take your relationships to a whole new level.
