Last month, Ulli's Streets of Asia had its 2nd anniversary and Kalami Cebu was there to enjoy the amazing dishes and desserts that this restaurant has to offer. Ulli's is part of Laguna Garden group which is bannered by the iconic Cafe Laguna. This Asian restaurant features dishes that are inspired by the different street foods found in different cities of Asia. Eating there is like a gastronomic journey around Asia in one meal.  During their second anniversary, Ulli's treated the diners with a free dessert buffet. Here are some highlights of the awesome lunch that I had there:

Exciting Dishes at Ulli's Streets of Asia

Fish Balls in Red Curry

Growing up, I eat a lot of fish balls during my elementary, high school, and even college days. I always like to eat in the afternoon after my classes.  I typically dip it in the spicy vinegar jar first then finish it on the sweet sauce jar. Eating the fish balls at Ulli's sort of took me back to childhood. Their fish balls  were bigger than usual. It was more like the typical squid balls sold in the streets. The fish balls were bathed in red curry sauce which had some kick that I enjoyed.  The dish is inspired from the fish balls that are sold in the streets of Hong Kong.

Po Piah

Popiah or fresh spring rolls is a Fujian dish that is really popular in Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia. It is basically like the fresh lumpia of Cafe Laguna. This is one good dish for those prefer veggies. It is a perfect snack or starter.

Tetsu's Yakitori

Ulli's Streets of Asia has a solid line-up of Yakitoris or in our language, barbecue. We were served a Tori-Tori platter that included Toriniku (white meat chicken), Butabara (Bacon), Ika (Squid), and Ebi (shrimp). Each one was full of flavor and grilled perfectly. It is a good dish to go with some rice.

I was also able to taste the Flying Tebasaki (Singaporean Chicken barbecue), Asuparabekon (bacon and asparagus), and Poba Tori (Potato and Bacon).  The asparagus and bacon yakitori is a must-try. I surely want to eat some Yakitori after a workout. I know now where to go now.

Beef Hokkien

The beef and hokkien noodle stir-fry is a savory "pancit" dish. Filipinos rarely put beef in their egg noodles but this dish is something that any noodle lover would have fun eating.

Mixed Grain Fried Rice

This is an interesting mix of black, red, and white rice. It also has peanuts and mung dhal. Just like any type of fried rice, this goes so well with the yakitori and other meat dishes. It was also great with the pancit. ;)

Combo Pork Platter

This dish was one of my major highlights for the Ulli's second anniversary lunch. The platter featured two of my favorite ways to prepare pork. On the left is Siu Yuk or Crispy Pork Belly and on the right is Char Siu or Chinese Roast Pork. Locally, they are more known as lechon kawali and asado. I really loved the contrast of flavors and textures in this platter.

Emperor's Bowl

This delicious hot pot dish had Shrimps, Brocolli, Bokchoy, corn, and mushrooms.  It was a pleasant mix of fine and healthy ingredients.  This is another recommended dish for those who want to avoid eating red meat.

Tokyo Drip

Ulli's Streets of Asia, Ulli's, Asian Street Food, Taho, Yakitori, Fish balls, Buchi, Char Siu, Hokkien, Flying Tebasaki
For drinks, I had the Tokyo Drip which is a mix of fresh Apple, Carrot, and Lemon juices. Ulli's Streets of Asia has more than 10 combinations of healthy fruit juices.

Desserts at Ulli's Streets of Asia

Chilled Taho

This is Ulli's take of the classic Filipino taho that is peddled in the streets. The Filipino favorite has silky tofu topped with molasses and sago. This was the first dessert that I tasted on their dessert buffet. Eating taho always makes me smile.

Cheng Tng

Ulli's Streets of Asia, Ulli's, Asian Street Food, Taho, Yakitori, Fish balls, Buchi, Char Siu, Hokkien, Flying Tebasaki
Cheng Tng is a popular Singaporean dessert that has pearled barley, grass jelly, lychee, and sago.  This reminded me of sago gulaman which is one of my top 10 favorite dessert beverages of all-time.

Buchi

Ulli's Streets of Asia, Ulli's, Asian Street Food, Taho, Yakitori, Fish balls, Buchi, Char Siu, Hokkien, Flying Tebasaki
These ball-shaped rice cakes are filled with a sweet bean paste filling then coated with sesame seeds. This is my favorite Chinese dessert.

Smores

Ulli's Streets of Asia, Ulli's, Asian Street Food, Taho, Yakitori, Fish balls, Buchi, Char Siu, Hokkien, Flying Tebasaki

Their version of smores used graham crackers that sandwiched melted marshmallows and chocolate. Kids would definitely love this one.

Heaven's Delight

Ulli's Streets of Asia, Ulli's, Asian Street Food, Taho, Yakitori, Fish balls, Buchi, Char Siu, Hokkien, Flying Tebasaki
This combination of white and dark chocolate mousse is heaven for the sweet tooth.

Bilo Bilo

Ulli's Streets of Asia, Ulli's, Asian Street Food, Taho, Yakitori, Fish balls, Buchi, Char Siu, Hokkien, Flying Tebasaki
This Filipino classic has sticky rice balls in coconut cream. Enjoying this rich dessert was a  great way to cap an awesome meal.

I really enjoyed eating at Ulli's Streets of Asia. It was not my first time there but it was my first time to try some of their desserts.  I would surely love to eat there if they will once again offer diners a free dessert buffet.

Ulli's Streets of Asia is located at the 4th level of Ayala Center Cebu New Wing.
