Kalaminions #MeetEatRepeat: Canton King
Last week, a couple of Kalamionion friends checked out as new restaurant in the General Maxilom Avenue area called Canton King. At first, I thought it was a "panciteria" or a noodle place and I was freakin' wrong. Canton King actually serves some roast specialties combined with delicious Singaporean and Cantonese dishes. We really enjoyed sampling their offerings and I think Cebuanos should at least give this restaurant a try.
Canton King is located on the ground of Sampaguita Suites in Mango Avenue (Gen. Maxilom Avenue). It is just a stone's throw away from Robinsons Fuente, and Fuente Osmena. They occupy the area that used to be Razon's and for oldtimers, Canton King is in the building of the old Belvic Theater. They also have a food stall inside the Fuente Circle in the holiday season.
Amazing Dishes at Canton King
Once you go inside the restaurant, you know that it is a Chinese restaurant. It will remind you of some restaurants in Hong Kong or Singapore where owners display their grilled goodies like roast chicken, char siu or peking duck. They have it all save for peking duck and they have lechon belly instead as a suitable substitute. Canton King also serves satay, hot pot, congee, curry, and stir-fried duck. There are actually a lot of choices here and they are sold at super affordable prices.
Here are some of the dishes that I tried with my friends:
Roast Chicken
Satay
Curry Chicken
Curry Chicken Noodle Soup
Century Egg and Pork Congee

Lechon Belly

Char Siu Rice
Fish with Belachan Sauce
Stir Fried Duck
Ice Kacang

Ice Cendol
We really enjoyed the dishes that was offered to us. For me, the Char Siu rice is a bargain at 98 pesos. I also think that there congee is perfect for the rainy days or when I feel a bit under the weather. I also love the fact they offer some duck dishes. The stir-fried duck is a pretty solid lunch or dinner option. Canton King's lechon belly is pretty good as well. You can actually order a whole lechon belly by calling (032)412-0777.
The desserts at Canton King are a must try as well. The ice kacang is Singapore's version of our local Halo-Halo and I think kids and the sweet tooth would want this dessert. It was my first time to try ice cendol and I enjoyed its different textures and colors.
Canton King is a restaurant to watch in that area. If you love Chinese food and items like char siu, roast chicken or duck, you should visit this new restaurant. Items are moderately priced and the servings are more than adequate. Check it out and let me know what you think about this restaurant.
