Best Things To Eat in Dumanjug, Cebu

A few weeks ago, I asked the candidates of Binibining Cebu 2017 about what is delicious in their place.  Some were really confident with their answers that it made me want to go to their towns and check it out myself.  Last week, I got the chance to visit Dumanjug and try out Bisnok and a new local favorite called Cho'la.  So, here's a humble post about the best things to eat in Dumanjug, Cebu.

Bisnok

During my close encounter with Binibining Cebu 2017 beauties, Miss Dumanjug blurted out "Basta Dumanjug, Bisnok!" Yes! The people of Dumanjug has embraced the native chicken as their main specialty.  Normally, this comes in the form of roasted chicken but there is also a fried chicken version. 

St. Mark Hotel actually gets Bisnok regularly from a supplier in Dumanjug.  The dish' popularity has made it one of the top "exports" of the town as hotels as far as Cebu City has recognized its yumminess. 

I personally like it a lot. It might be thinner than the typical roast chicken but it is somehow unbeatable flavor-wise. In my trip to Dumanjug, I ate Bisnok while at Rosalina's.  The management of Rosalina's said that they get the chicken from a local supplier.  Rosalina's just made it easier for me to find the best chicken this side of Cebu.

Cho'la

When my host told me that I will have "chola" in Dumanjug, I replied to him with a smirk on my face.  Cho'la has a different meaning in Visayan slang. Well, I tried Cho'la in Dumanjug and I loved it. Cho'la is actually short for Choco Lanay.  It is a pie filled with melted chocolate.  The best thing about the Cho'la at Rosalina's is that it comes out fresh from the oven.  It could take some time to make but it is surely worth the wait. Just like true love (wink wink!)

The kid in me likes it a lot and today's kids can afford it since it is just 4 pesos a slice.  No wonder, there were so many kids hanging out at Rosalinda's when we dropped by.  A whole pie is just 32 pesos and I can probably finish it on my own.  Rosalinda's owner created two other variants for the lanay.  One has strawberry filling sold the same price with the choco lanay and the other is the fruity version of the Cho'la which is sold at 58 pesos a pie.

Roleta

I also tried Roleta which is a muffin-type baked delicacy that comes in different flavors.  This baked goodie is semi-hard but it has soft and sweet fillings inside.  A pack of 4 pieces is just sold at 20 pesos.

It was a worthwhile trip to Dumanjug.  I really had a blast and if I go to the nearby towns like Badian and Moalboal, I would probably make a stopover at Rosalina's and get some Cho'la or devour some roasted Bisnok.

Dumajug is 73 kilometers away from Cebu City. It is located in between Barili and Ronda in the southwestern portion of the island. It is also bounded by Sibonga on the east.  The town also has RORO port going to Negros.  You will normally pass by this town if you are going to Badian and Moalboal coming from Cebu City or Carcar City.  Several bus operators have routes passing through this town. Bus fare will be around 100 pesos and travel time will be between 2-3 hours from Cebu City by bus.

So if you want to taste the best things to eat in Dumanjug, Cebu then visit the newly-opened branch of Rosalina's at Sitio Bangag, Tangil, Dumanjug, Cebu. If you get lost, you can just ask the friendly people of Dumanjug and they will most likely point you in the right direction.
