Food Trip Everyday at Makan Ahooy Food Kiosk

Lately, I have been concentrating on making videos for my Instagram account and Facebook page.  One of my videos recently got over 8,000 views without using ads and it was about this new food court that has opened in Salinas Drive named Makan Ahooy Food Kiosk.  This food court promises to give you some of the best eats at super affordable prices.  Check it out and tell me what you think about it.

It was not really my first time in Makan Ahooy, a week prior I went to check out this place and I only tried two stalls.  After eating at Cio's Street Food and Miga, I found the food court quite promising. I was pretty excited when blogger JL Mainit of Viajera Cebuana invited me to the launch of this new exciting food spot in Lahug.

Makan Ahooy is a concept of Chef Marc Cuizon.   He wanted to put up a place where Cebuanos can eat their favorite food at affordable prices.  He recruited some friends to put up stalls featuring different cuisines.  At Makan Ahooy, there is a place for lasagna, Korean food, shawarma, lutong bahay, and street food.  There are countless of possibilities for an awesome meal there.

What I like most about Makan Ahooy is the wide array of affordable choices for a meal.  I once went here with 300 pesos to try out a few dishes and I ended up having to take a lot of food home as I cannot finish it all. I am really happy that there is another good place for lunch or dinner in the area.  It is a no-frills food court and it reminded me of the times when I would go to Salinas Drive to eat ginabot and other ponko-pongko favorites (it was a long time ago).

I have not tried every dish available here but I was able to taste a lot during my first and second visits.  I am just going to list down some of the items that I will probably order again on my next #eatploration here.

Batchoy

 There are just days that I crave for some soup. Having a good bowl of batchoy is an affordable luxury during the rainy season. I like going to places like Carlo's Batchoy in Mandaue but I am quite lazy looking for a parking space. At least now, I have an alternative at Makan Ahooy as Cio's Street Food is offering Ilo-Ilo Batchoy in their stall. They use fresh noodles with a flavorful broth topped with some innards and chicharon. It is definitely "lami!". For those who like taking pictures, better shoot it quickly because the longer you wait, the saltier that batchoy becomes.

Lasagna

 To be honest, I am not much of a pasta guy but when I eat out with female friends, they would normally get some pasta.  Good thing at Makan Ahooy Food Kiosk there is a dependable place for lasagna.  Lasagne Que is definitely a go-to stall for pasta lovers out there.  They probably have the most awesome lasagna in town peso for peso.

Ginabot

 Ginabot and Salinas Drive used to be synonymous.  The street was a pongko pongko hub. I rarely see pongko pongko vendors in the street nowadays. Well, the legendary ginabot is also in Makan Ahooy Food Kiosk. At least here, you can eat on a proper table and chair plus you have more options here for your second dish than your regular pongko pongko stall.  You can buy ginabot and ngohiong at Mackies inside Makan Ahooy .

Bacolod Chicken Inasal

 Chicken Barbecue just goes so well with puso.  Filipinos love chicken inasal so much that some chicken inasal places have become nationally-renowned "fast food" brands.  If you crave for some chicken barbecue and you do not have 100 pesos to pay the value meal at Mang Inasal then head down to Cio's Street Food and have a chicken inasal for only 45 pesos. Just buy some puso and drinks and you will have an amazing barbecue lunch for way less than 100 pesos.

Pork Steak

 If you feel, a little bit fancy then just order some pork steak at Zee's.  Chef Marc Cuizon pork steak boasts of the yummiest sauce that makes you order some extra cup of rice or two. It is the perfect dish for the guys and girls who just had a wicked workout.

Fried Dumplings and Balls

 Makan Ahooy is not just about meals.  You can actually just go here with some friends and have snacks.  You can enjoy an afternoon of gossip over some tempura, squid balls, dumplings, and lobster balls.

Samgyeopsal

Makan Ahooy Food Kiosk is probably the only place that you can enjoy Korean Samgyeopsal along with your "Bisaya" favorites.  Can you imagine eating samgyeopsal with dugo-dugo on the side? Well in Makan Ahooy, it is totally possible.  Miga is a great place for Korean dishes and those spicy dishes actually, goes well with some of the Filipino and Asian favorites offered in other stalls here.


Whether you a purist or an adventurous eater like me, there are just a lot of options at Makan Ahooy.
