Best Value Korean BBQ Place in Cebu: Barangay Seoul

For me, Korean BBQ Places are among the "healthiest" All-You-Can restaurants out there.   All-You-Can-Eat Restaurants makes you binge; but, with Korean Barbecues, you also get to eat a good amount of vegetables. I recently dined at the newly-opened Barangay Seoul and as expected, had a grand time eating their unlimited samgyeopsal and other Korean specialties.  I even got to do a Samyang Special Noodle Challenge.

Value for Money Korean Barbecue: Barangay Seoul

There are so many places now in Cebu that offer All-You-Can-Eat chicken wings for 199 pesos. At 199 pesos, you can have unlimited servings of chicken wings, rice, and iced tea. Just for 100 pesos more, you can have an All-You-Can-Eat Sampgyeopsal (grilled pork) and more for lunch at Barangay Seoul.  Dishes could include Korean fried chicken, kimchi frioed rice, kimchi sinigang, Korean fish cakes, kimchi, japchae, dak galbi, and a whole lot more. If that is not a great value for money buffet, then I do not know what is.

For dinner, the All-You-Can-Eat is at 349 pesos per head and the price is valid for a minimum of 2 people. So, if you come here you have to bring someone with you. It would be a fine excuse for you to ask your crush to lunch or dinner. Samgyeopsal and Chill, anyone?

DIY Korean Noodles and #SpicyNoodleChallenge

I love instant noodles and Korean Ramyeon is one of the best in the world.  One unique thing you can do here at Barangay Seoul is to cook your own Korean noodles. They have several brands to choose from and you can cook on your table or have the waiters do it for you.

Since we are already talking about Korean noodles, here at Barangay Seoul you can actually do a Samyang Spicy Noodle Challenge.  The restaurant is a perfect place to shoot a spicy noodle challenge for your vlog or Instagram.  The lighting is more than adequate and the restaurant gives out a Korean vibe. Should it become too hot for you, well you can always eat some coleslaw or wash it down with some drinks.  Try it out and let me know what happened.

Variety

A buffet is judged by the quantity and quality of dishes that a restaurant offers.  Here at Barangay Seoul, you get so many yummy dishes that go so well with the unlimited grilled pork belly. Here  are some pictures of the dishes that you can have there:

Tteokbokki is a savory rice cake dish that is popular among Koreans.  The rice cakes have the texture of our local budbud, but it is flavored with a savory sauce that might be surprising at first because we are used to having rice cakes with some sweet hot chocolate drink.

 Since we Filipinos love rice, the owners made sure to serve Kimchi Fried Rice or Kimchi bokkeum bap. For sure, fried rice and grilled meat is a match made in heaven.

 For chicken, they have KFC or Korean Fried Chicken.  It is perfect as an appetizer, main dish, or as a "pulutan" for beer or soju.

 If Cebu has bam-i, Seoul has Japchae.  This stir-fried glass noodles and vegetable dish is present in almost all Korean restaurants.

 If you love some interesting texture in your sampgyeopsal wrap, then you can put fries on it.

 Barangay Seoul has a variety of sauces and condiments for your meat like the Ssamjang, salt and pepper, garlic, roasted soybean, etc.

 They also serve pickles and salads.   You have to have some kimchi when you plan to eat a lot of samgyeopsal.

 They serve two kinds of marinated pork or bulgogi.  I prefer the spicy version, but the non-spicy one is also good.

 Dak Galbi or Korean Spicy Chicken Stir Fry is also served here.

And if you want to have a Seoul street food feel, you can have some Korean fish cakes on a stick.  Take a snap and pretend that you are having a Korean street food trip.

Meat and the Samgyeopsal Experience

For an affordable samgyeopsal place, Barangay Seoul did not take the pork for granted.  They actually pre-cook the meat on a charcoal grill to give it a more authentic flavor.  They also use a high power non-stick and non-smoke stove for a perfect Korean barbecue experience.  Their utensils and plates have to be commended as well.  They even have trainer chopsticks for the beginners or kids.

Price

I cannot label this restaurant as the best value Korean BBQ place in Cebu City if I was not happy with the price.  For 299 pesos, it is hard to find a similar filling experience with the variety and quality that I have tried here at Barangay Seoul.  The dinner rate of 349 is still a bargain.  I would surely come back here for more.
