Filipino Restaurants in Cebu: Enjoyable Dinner at Parilya
When a balikbayan goes home to the Philippines, he/she would definitely want to eat in a Filipino restaurant. My mom is no different. One of her favorite Filipino restaurants in Cebu is Cafe Laguna. A couple of weeks ago, I drove her to the Basilica Minore Del Santo Nino because she wanted to hear mass with her friends. My wife and I tagged along. After the mass, my mom said that she wanted to have an early dinner. I decided to take her to Parilya, Laguna group's newest restaurant at the South Road Properties. It was definitely a wise decision as we had a very enjoyable and filling dinner.
Parilya is located at Il Corso at the South Road Properties. It is close to Plaza Sugbo and Lantaw restaurant. The restaurant is facing the Cebu Strait. The restaurant's name, when translated to Filipino means griller. The restaurant specializes in grilled food, seafood, and lechon. We were able to get a good table at the outdoor area of the restaurant. Their menu is full of many familiar dishes that have grown to love over the years. We decided to order the following:
Abregana (Starter): Fresh Lumpia - Laguna Group is famous for their take of the Pinoy classic lumpiang ubod. The serving size is more than enough for one person. My mom usually orders this because she has diet restrictions and also because it has been her favorite.
Sabaw (Soup): Sinagang na Baboy -Sipping on some sour sinigang soup is a good way of opening up the appetite. The pork was tender and this soup has been my wife's favorite since childhood. Although this soup is more popular in Luzon, many Visayans enjoy this sour soup.
Utan (Vegetable): Adobong Kangkong - My mom and my titas are fond of this simple dish. I love putting the sauce of this dish to my rice. I also like the generous amount of roasted garlic on Parilya's Adobong Kangkong.
For the main proteins, we ordered a grilled panga ng tuna. If you eat in Parilya, you must have at least one grilled dish. The tuna was really flavorful and I did not even need sawsawan to finish a big chunk of the order.
Fiesta Seafood Platter - I ordered Parilya's Seafood Platter that includes steamed shrimps, grilled squid, sweet corn, steamed crabs, tahong, and lato salad. If you love seafood, why not order this platter and get it all. It's literally a seafood fiesta and each component is cooked marvelously.
Parilya Shrimps- Since Steph and I love shrimps and it has been a while since we had some, we also ordered the Parilya Shrimps. The shrimps can rival the offerings of the many shrimp places that have been sprouting recently like Bucket Shrimps and Choobi-Choobi. The sauce is so good. They are lucky that they do not offer unlimited shrimps there or else I would have eaten kilos of the Parilya Shrimps.
It was really fun having dinner there. I have my fill of seafood while my mom got to enjoy some fine Filipino food. It was a win for everybody. If I ever get hungry while in the area, Parilya would be in my top 3 restaurant options. A #happytummy is always guaranteed when you eat there.
