6-13-2015 Food of the Day: Sweet and Sour Fish

Sometimes a fried meat can be elevated to a different level with a delicious sauce.  Take this fried Katambak or two-spot Red Snapper.  It would have been delicious already as a fried fish, but adding some sweet and sour sauce made it more appetizing. With some delicious sauce, I usually end up with eating a cup or 2 more of rice.

When news broke that Itchoy Batchoyan had reopened its doors, my heart did a little dance of joy. The unassuming eatery nestled in the heart of Cebu City had become a cherished haven for many, offering more than just food; it provided comfort, solace, and a sense of community during the tough times of the pandemic and beyond. In a city known for its bustling food scene, Itchoy Batchoyan still found a way to stand out. During the pandemic, I never stopped exploring and looking for the best local eats.  One of my most exciting discoveries was this unassuming Batchoyan and Paresan. I remember the first time I walked through its doors, drawn in by the aroma of familiar Filipino comfort foods. Filipino Restaurants in Cebu: Enjoyable Dinner at Parilya

 When a balikbayan goes home to the Philippines, he/she would definitely want to eat in a Filipino restaurant.  My mom is no different.  One of her favorite Filipino restaurants in Cebu is Cafe Laguna. A couple of weeks ago, I drove her to the Basilica Minore Del Santo Nino because she wanted to hear mass with her friends. My wife and I tagged along.  After the mass, my mom said that she wanted to have an early dinner.  I decided to take her to Parilya, Laguna group's newest restaurant at the South Road Properties. It was definitely a wise decision as we had a very enjoyable and filling dinner.

I recently got invited to check out another restaurant at The Gallery in Mabolo.   I immediately said yes because The Gallery has been the home to several interesting restaurants.   The name of the latest establishment that I have tried is F Café and Bar. I expected it to be the typical run of the mill bar/café that offer fatty dishes to cater to a crowd interested in  booze, as well as, food. Well, I was totally wrong and really glad that I was.
