Filipino Restaurants in Cebu: Magnificent Dinner at Manggahan
After a hot summer afternoon going to Busay, we were looking for a good place to eat after coming down from the mountain area of Cebu City. Our host, Lotlot Madura, wanted to eat Filipino dishes and she suggested Manggahan at Wilson Street in Lahug. Manggahan has somehow established a niche of serving Cebuano comfort food in a very relaxing setting.
We were really hungry we ordered many of their dishes. Here are the delicious dishes at Manggahan that we ordered:
Grilled Liempo - Grilled Pork Belly was an easy choice. I cannot name anyone I know that will not like a freshly grilled marinated pork. Manggahan's version was nothing special, but it was one of the dishes that got cleaned up first from its serving dish.
Pancit Canton - Manggahan's pancit canton had lots of ingredients and it was seasoned well.
Sinuglaw - This dish served as a perfect appetizer to open up my taste buds.
Halang Halang na Baboy ug Baka - This soup just became of my favorite soups in a local restaurant. It was spicy good and the soup could be a great hangover or cold cure. If you love hot dishes then this meat soup is perfect for you.
Monggos Puno sa Subak - Manggahan's version of the Monggo soup was definitely a winner. It truly had lots of "subak". I would love to order this dish every time I go to this restaurant.Assorted Barbecue - We had a barbecue platter comprised of pork bbq and chorizo. The chorizo bbq was an instant favorite for my wife. Each stick costs less than 10 pesos each.
Biko Bayot - To cap our tummy-filling supper, we ordered Biko Bayot. The oddly named dessert was so good. It was made of biko, a sweet rice cake made from pilit (sticky rice) that was adorned with colorful sago and topped with ube ice cream. Manggahan's Biko Bayot was a joy to eat.
It was my wife's first time to eat at Manggahan and she had a grand time. She wants to go back there when she craves for some local dishes. Manggahan's menu is not complicated and it has many Cebuano favorites. Familiar Dishes + Close to the heart flavors + Affordable Prices = Instant Favorite Restaurant. The simple formula really works in this restaurant and I am certain that I will be visiting the place once again in the near future. Thanks to Lotlot, I learned a new place to bring friends who are looking for a good restaurant to eat local dishes. ;)
